The Foundation of Pendidikan Ilmu-ilmu Al-Qur’an (YPIIQ) Wonosobo was founded in 1987 starting from the ideas and holy intentions of KH. Muntaha Al-Hafidz, caregiver of the Tahfidzul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School (PPTQ) Al-Asy'ariyah Kalibeber Wonosobo, who formed the Al-Qur'an Study Center (LPQ) to prepare for the establishment of the Luhur Al-Qur'an Islamic Boarding School.

The idea was received with a positive response from community leaders in Central Java, which consists of four main pillars, namely: (1) ulama (Islamic boarding schools), (2) umara' (Central Java Provincial Government and Wonosobo Regency Government), (3) entrepreneurs (business and industry), and (4) academician. The four pillars work together synergistically to establish a higher education institution that has the characteristics of the Qur'an in Central Java. On March 22, 1987 a Working Team was formed to establish the Institute of Ilmu Al-Qur’an (IIQ) consisting of: Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of Central Java, Bintal Bureau of Central Java Province, LPTQ of Central Java Province, and several lecturers at IAIN Walisongo Semarang (now UIN Walisongo).

Then on May 19, 1987 Commission E of the DPRD (Regional People’s Representatives Assembly) of Central Java Province approved the plan of the Governor of Central Java to establish an IIQ with the full name "Institute of Ilmu AI-Qur'an (IIQ) Jawa Tengah in Wonosobo". The name "Jawa Tengah /Central Java" is listed as a manifestation of the initiator and indicates that IIQ belongs to Central Java, which is stationed in Wonosobo. During a working visit by the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, H. Munawir Sadzali, MA., on August 7, 1987 AD to coincide with the 13th Dzulhijjah 1024 H which was also used as the birthday (harlah) IIQ, the Minister of Religion approved the establishment of IIQ Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo which is located at PPTQ Al-Asy'ariyah Kalibeber. With the encouragement and blessing of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, right on November 6, 1987 in the presence of Notary Budiadi Gunawan, S.H. with its address in Wonosobo, a foundation was established under the name YIIQ (The Foundation of Institute Ilmu Al-Qur’an).

In the dynamics of subsequent developments, there was a change in the name of the foundation and the composition of its management based on the Notarial Deed Number: 14 of 1998, the Foundation of Institute Ilmu Al Qur’an (YIIQ) changed its name to The Foundation of Pendidikan Ilmu-ilmu Al-Qur'an (YPIIQ) Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo. In order to adjust to the requirements as regulated in the laws and regulations concerning Legal Entities for Higher Education Providers, as well as regeneration of the management of the Foundation, based on the Deed of Notary Joko Suroso, S.H. (Notary Substitute Isrowiyah, S.H.) Number: 01 of 2009 strengthened by a Ministerial Decree Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number: AHU-2141.AH.01.04. 2010 Concerning the Ratification of the Foundation of Pendidikan Ilmu-ilmu Al-Qur’an (YPIIQ) Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo.

Institute Ilmu Al-Qur'an

IIQ Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo was established in 1988 and was the forerunner to the founding of UNSIQ Central Java in Wonosobo. The first IIQ Chancellor was KH. Muntaha Al-Hafidz (1988-2001). Initially, IIQ had 2 faculties with 2 undergraduate study programs, namely: the Faculty of Tarbiyah, the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) study program, and the Da'wah Faculty of the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting (KPI) study program. In subsequent developments until 1993, IIQ Central Java had 3 faculties with 6 study programs at the undergraduate level.

Akper

In accordance with the Master Plan of Development of IIQ Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo, coinciding with the eighth anniversary of the establishment of IIQ, in 1996 the D-III (Diploma) of Nursing Program was opened under the Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia. On February 26, 1996, the Decree for the implementation of higher education D-III (Diploma) in Nursing was officially issued by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia through the Head of the Indonesian National Education Center Number: HK.00.06.1.1.540A. The first Director of Akper IIQ was Dr. H. Achmad Sahudi, Sp.A.

STIE YPIIQ

The next development after the establishment of AKPER IIQ (Nursing Academy of Istitute Ilmu-ilmu Al-Qur’an and in order to develop IIQ into a university, then in 1999 with the Decree of the Minister of National Education Rl. Number: 29/D/0/1999, dated February 23, 1999 a new educational program has been opened, namely the YPIIQ College of Economics (STIE) with 2 study programs, namely: Management Study Program (S-1) and Accounting Study Program (S). -1). The first head of STIE YPIIQ was Ir. H. Bambang Hargono, M.M.

On the blessing of the President of the Republic of Indonesia KH. Abdurrahman Wahid on a visit to PPTQ Al-Asy'ariyyah which was taken care of by Hadratus Shaykh KH. Muntaha Al-Hafidz, in 2001, and based on the Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 78/D/O/2001 dated July 10, 2001, Universitas Sains Al-Qur’an (UNSIQ) Jawa Tengah was officially established in Wonosobo which is the development of the previous 3 universities (IIQ, AKPER and STIE) plus various scientific study programs and technology.

The name "Universitas Sains Al-Qur’an" is shortened to "UNSIQ" which means "string of pearls". Until 2018, since the establishment of IIQ and undergoing development to become UNSIQ, there have been 7 changes in the leadership of the Chancellor:

The Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK) is a change from the Faculty of Tarbiyah. The Faculty of Tarbiyah was founded in 1988 with the Faculty of Da'wah and is a pioneering faculty within UNSIQ. At the beginning of the establishment of the Faculty of Tarbiyah, the Islamic Religious Education Study Program (PAI) was opened, based on the Recommendation Letter of Kopertais Region X Central Java Number: 110/Kep.X/A/VIII/88, then the Decree of the Operational Permit of the Director General of Institutional Development (Dirjen Binbaga) Ministry of Religion RI Number: EP/PP.03.2/K/1771/89.

The change of the name of the Tarbiyah Faculty to the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK) occurred in 2006 with the aim of being able to accommodate the Religious Studies Program and the General Study Program at the same time. This was done after the issuance of the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education on the Operational Permit of the Physics Education Study Program. Then in 2007 opened the PGMI Study Program (S-1/Bachelor Program). Thus, FITK is currently in two coaching areas at once, namely under Kopertais Region X Central Java for the Islamic Religious Education Study Program (PAI), the Islamic Education Study Program for Islamic Education Teachers (PGMI) and Early Childhood Islamic Education (PIAUD) and Arabic Language Education (PBA) and Kopertis Region VI Central Java for Physics Education Study Program.

The Faculty of Communication and Social Politics (FKSP) was originally named the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication which was established in 1988 together with the Faculty of Tarbiyah. Starting from the establishment of IIQ until the change of IIQ to UNSIQ Central Java in Wonosobo, the Da'wah Faculty is one of the pioneering faculties of the idea of establishing a higher education institution by the name of the Institute of Ilmu-ilmu Al-Qur’an (IIQ). In accordance with the recommendation letter from the Coordinator of Kopertais Region X Central Java Number 110/Kep.X.A/VIII/1988. Then the Decree of the Operational Permit of the Director General of Binbaga, Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia Number: EP/PP.03.2/K/1771/89 with a major in Islamic Communication and Broadcasting (KPI) with an undergraduate education program (S.1/Bachelor Program). In 1990, the Faculty of Da'wah with the KPI Strata 1 (S.1/Bachelor Program) Study Program received Registered status based on the Decree of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 200 of 1990.

With the change of IIQ to UNSIQ since 2001 based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 87/D/0/2001, the Faculty of Da'wah changed its name to the Faculty of Da'wah & Communication under the guidance of Kopertais Region X Central Java in Semarang. In the next development, the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, changed its name to the name of the Faculty of Communication and Social Politics. The existing Study Programs, namely KPI (Islamic Communication and Broadcasting) have been accredited with a B rating from BAN PT: Number 010/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XV/S/1/2013, and Political Science Study Program with SK. Dikti No 50/KP/III/2015.

In addition to the field of Communication, FKSP also expanded its wings by opening the "Political Science" Study Program, responding to the development of Islamic politics in Indonesia. FKSP offers a scientific concentration in the field of Islamic politics with compulsory concentration courses offered are: Middle East Studies, World and Indonesian Islamic Political Movements, and Tafsir Siyasah by combining the treasures of political science, both classical and contemporary, with the treasures of Islamic scholarship.

The history of the establishment of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the Universitas Sains Al-Qur’an (UNSIQ) Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo cannot be separated from the dynamics and development of the IIQ Central java in Wonosobo. The Faculty of Sharia and Law was established in 1993/1994, under the name of the Faculty of Sharia. The Syari'ah Faculty is proposed to fulfill its existence as an "Institut" which must have at least three faculties with each faculty consisting of 2 (two) study programs.

For this reason, after the existence of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Da'wah, IIQ then proposed one more faculty, namely the Faculty of Sharia which was then recommended based on the Decree of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia. Number 305 of 1993, with the Department of Religious Courts which later changed its name to the Ahwal Syakhshiyah Study Program. In its development, in 1996, the Faculty of Sharia added a new study program with the Decree of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia Number 300 of 1996 concerning the implementation of Muamalah Study Program.

In 1998, the Syari'ah Faculty of the Ahwal Syakhshiyah Study Program increased its status from being registered to being recognized by the Decree of the Director General of Binbagais of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia. Number E/334/1998. In 2002 the Ahwal Syakhsiyah Study Program was accredited from BAN-PT based on the Decree of BAN PT Number: 010/BAN-PT/AK-V/S1/VI/2002. In 2012, the Ahwal Syakhsiyah Study Program again applied for accreditation, and was re-accredited with SKBAN PT Number: 047/BAN-PT/Ak-XV/S1/XII/2012 with a B value (332).

In 2004, the Syari'ah Faculty opened the Mu'amalah Study Program and obtained an establishment permit based on Decree Number: Dj.I/75/2004. Then for the sustainability of the Study Program, in 2010 the Mu'amalah Study Program applied for accreditation through the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education and received an accreditation rating of B (323) with the Decree of BAN PT Number: 030/BAN-PT/Ak-XIII/S1/ 2010.

Referring to the Regulation of the Director General of Islamic Education Number 1429 of 2012 concerning Arrangement of Study Programs in Islamic Higher Education as an elaboration of the Regulation of the Minister of Religion Number 36 of 2009 concerning the determination of the field of science and academic degrees within the Higher Education Religion, the Mu'amalah Study Program is officially changed its name to Sharia Economic Law Study Program (Mu'amalah). Then apply for re-accreditation by getting a B (343) with the SK BAN PT Number: 2379/BAN-PT/Akred/S1/X/2016.

In mid 2001, based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education, RI. Number: 87/D/0/2001 concerning Permit to Organize the Universitas Sains Al-Qur’an (UNSIQ), the name IIQ changed to UNSIQ. Since then, the Faculty of Sharia changed to the Faculty of Sharia / Islamic Law UNSIQ with Study Programs: Ahwal Syakhsiyah and Muamalah Study Programs.

In 2009, the Faculty of Sharia added one more study program, namely the Al-Qur'an and Tafsir Study Program with a Permit to Organize the Study Program Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia Number: Dj.1/614/2009 dated October 22, 2009 and this study program accredited with a B value (337) based on SK BAN-PT Number: 1638/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/V/2017 valid May 30, 2017 – May 30, 2022.

2013, the Faculty of Sharia added one more study program, namely the Legal Studies Program based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia concerning Permits for the Implementation of Legal Studies Programs dated November 28, 2013, Number: 565/F/O/2013, and was declared accredited with the same number.

In 2014, the Sharia Faculty added one more Study Program, namely the Sharia Banking Study Program based on the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Higher Education dated July 1, 2014, Number: 3656 of 2014, concerning Permits to Organize Study Programs at Private Islamic Universities and accredited with the same Number.

Based on the Decree of the Chancellor of UNSIQ Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo, dated March 7, 2014, Number: 29/SK/UNSIQ/III/2014 changed the name of the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Law to FACULTY OF SHARIA AND LAW.

The name of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) was determined based on the 2008 UNSIQ Statute to accommodate the Health and Nursing Study Programs. Until now, there are two study programs at FIKES, namely the Nursing Study Program (D-3/DIPLOMA-3) and the Midwifery Study Program (D-3/DIPLOMA-3). FIKES was originally known as the Nursing Academy (AKPER) which was one of the embryos for the establishment of UNSIQ Central Java in Wonosobo.

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) UNSIQ is a development of the Nursing Academy (AKPER) UNSIQ Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo which was established in 1996 with the Decree of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. HK 00.06.4.3.1218. In its development, in 2010 FIKES UNSIQ had two study programs, namely the D-III (DIPLOMA-3) Nursing Study Program with SK. DIKTI No. 235/D/T/K-VI/2010 and has been accredited by the Independent Accreditation Institute for Health Higher Education (LAM-PTKes).

The Faculty of Economics, Universitas Sains Al-Qur'an (UNSIQ) Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo is a change and development of the YPIIQ School of Economics (STIE) which was founded in 1999 with the Management Study Program and Accounting Study Program in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia through the Director General of Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 29/D/0/1999.

In 2001 with the establishment of UNSIQ, STIE YPIIQ changed to the Faculty of Economics with a Management and Accounting Study Program, in accordance with the Change to become Universitas Sains Al-Qur’an by the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 87/D/O/2001. So that the Faculty of Economics is integrated into a part of the Faculty in UNSIQ Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo. Both the Management Study Program and the Accounting Study Program, both have the status of BAN-PT Accredited with the respective value of Study Program B.

The Faculty of Language and Literature is an integral part of the Universitas Sai, Central Java in Wonosobo, which is a change from the Institute of Ilmu-ilmu Al-Qur’an (IIQ) in accordance with the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 87/ D/0/2001. Initially, the Faculty of Language and Literature was called the Faculty of Letters, but with the thought of the desire to open and develop new study programs, in 2006, the Faculty of Letters changed its name to the Faculty of Language and Literature as it is today. Until now, the Faculty of Language and Literature has only developed one study program, namely English Literature and has been accredited B in 2006 in accordance with the Decree of BAN PT Number: 018/BAN-PT/Ak-X/S1/XI/2006.

The Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FASTIKOM) is a name change from the Faculty of Engineering since 2007. The basis of the change is the existence of a Computer Science study program under the auspices of the Faculty, namely Informatics Engineering and Information Systems. With the change of name, it is hoped that the Faculty can add study programs related to computer science, in addition to the degree of graduates of the computer science study program using a Bachelor of Computer degree

The Faculty of Engineering itself is a merger of three faculties, namely the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, the Faculty of Informatics Engineering and the Faculty of Industrial Engineering in 2005. The reason for the merger is for work efficiency and effectiveness. The Graduate Study Program of Master of Islamic Education (M. Pd. I) and Master of Al-Qur`an and Tafsir (M.S.I./M.Ag.) Universitas Sains Al-Qur’an (UNSIQ) Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo are higher education programs continued S-1 based on the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia Number Dj.I/423/2007 dated November 1, 2007 and Dj.I/358/2008 dated October 8, 2008.

The Graduate Program is based on the Qur'anic sciences and Islamic boarding school education is held to open and develop scientific insight, Islam in Indonesian culture as developed by scholars who for six hundred years have stood the test of maintaining the power of Islam in Indonesia. By combining tradition and scientific modernity as the main guide, the Graduate Program in Universitas Sains Al-Qur’an Jawa Tengah di Wonosobo tries to build modern civilization in an increasingly intensive global arena.
